William Shakespeare wrote, “Expectation is the root of all heartache.”
I cannot meet your expectations if I do not know what they are. Expectations are tied into assumptions and homeostasis – the sun rises in the east. That’s the way it has always been. If we are to be transformed, and ours is a spiritual discipline that calls for us to be transformed, what are our expectations? How might we be disappointed? How might we be delighted? How can I convent with myself to be the best I can be while that transformation takes place?
