The Gift of Trans-form-a-tion

Quote – Richard Rohr:

Transformation more often happens not when something new begins but when something old falls apart. The pain of something old falling apart—chaos—invites the soul to listen at a deeper level. It invites and sometimes forces the soul to go to a new place because the old place is falling apart. Otherwise, most of us would never go to new places… This is when you need patience, guidance, and the freedom to let go instead of tightening your controls and certitudes… living in the confusing dark space for a while, and allowing yourself to be spit up on a new and unexpected shore. You can see why Jonah in the belly of the whale is such an important symbol…

Trans-form-a-tion — as we look at the parts of this word, we see trans (a change) FORM (something coming together) A (leading to?) TION (action). OK, maybe I’m stretching that a bit, but when I considered the word this month, this is what I saw.

A change-something coming together-leading to-action. I can live with that. Having said that, how hard is it to do this? Transformation can be a very scary place. It is not just a word.

Join me this Sunday as we look deeply at trans-form-a-tion as it affects each of us in our personal and church lives.
