We are saddened to announce the passing of our former member Steve Bollinger. Steve attended UUCJ for many years and taught psychology at Jackson State University. He was a faithful member and elder of our church, who served on the Board, and was a weekly attendee of Service and Forums. His critical thought, passion, and Humanist philosophy greatly enriched the Forum discussions, as did his ready laughter. He met and married Mary Margaret, his wife of two decades, at UUCJ. Mary Margaret and Steve were caretakers in every sense of the word, caring for our buildings and grounds, our elderly members, especially Vern Pearson, and hosted regular holiday gatherings at the church for members of the community. Several years ago, the Bollingers moved to the east coast to be closer to their children and grandchildren. They have been greatly missed!
A virtual memorial service and celebration of life was held by the Unitarian Universalist Community Church of Glen Allen on February 7, 2021. The memorial was recorded and will be shown for UUCJ members at a future date.
His obituary is posted online by where you may sign the virtual guestbook to send a message to his family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
